Watching the Runaway film was like examining all forms of art crafted in one magnificent piece. The visuals and music working so well with the storyline was inconceivable. The thoughts detailing in every aspects of the screen shots just blew my mind. I was very surprised that Hype Williams directed this. Some of his technique is evident in the film but I applaud him on his slight left field eye to the project. I’ve been left inspired and yet another creative box opens in my psyche. Thank You Kanye West.

Mauro Perucchetti Exhibition

A couple weeks ago, I was walking on New Bond Street and noticed the sculptures of Batman & Superman in marble. Though this was just a poster it certainly caught my eye. To my annoyance I realized that I had taken an awful picture in the rush to my destination, thank Buddha for Google because finding this exhibition was not easy at all.

The exhibition which features Batman & Superman in marble is by Mauro Perucchetti. Born in Italy in 1949, his work is at the junction genres of minimalism and pop art. His work is provocative, ironic and Italian sensually.

The exhibition is divided into parts, Modern Day Heroes, Hip Pop & Daily News. 20 new pieces by the artist will open from the 8th of October 2010 to the 8th of January 2011 at Halcyon Gallery

The tears of bloodshed to the false, foul mouthed prophesy of others, only makes you a stronger person to be able to get up and keep on going, because one thing I know is that the best revenge is to be successful in whatever it is that you want from life. To those that stand there and mock you, a life time of their energy is gone on just the negative thoughts based on you.

Your life is led to which you design, there are many choices that we make in getting to the position we need to be. As it is written in the stars of life’s destination, it’s up to you how you get there so fuck anyone that tells you any different. Our mind and self being have power beyond the imaginable so don’t be afraid to dwell in it. In time things will happen when they will, but be PATIENCE.

1st day of the CMTF tour, we touched down at Sheffield and of course the time that we get some sort of break, I’m out looking around the shops to see what they have to offer…
Very impressed….Sheffield has some style, predominately very big on the vintage scene; almost every other street had a vintage store around but good to see that they had some good things showing. Mainly impressed by the stand alone store the band and I visited was one that we all like very much.

Hantu Collective, more than just a fashion store, Hantu is an Art collective, judging by their blog site they have infused art exhibits and music. Check out the HANTU SITE for more information.

I was lucky enough to snap up some of the collections in the store, lucky as most what I saw is not online. Have a look at the STORE to see some of their collections.

Yes that would be the title that you actually read!! I wish you could see my facial reaction to when I read that same line. JLS have their own brand of condoms or it’s rather the face of Durex condoms!!

Knowing their fan base, majority of the young girls are Under 16, I find it shocking that they would even consider doing this but at the same time JLS, being used as a tool to promote safe sex is something that the young girls can listen to after all having the highest number of underage pregnancies in Europe is not something to be proud of. I see the right and wrong of this but very interested to see what the JLS boys were thinking when approached by this. The sexual uprising of the younger age bracket is definitely something to be looking at and the wide spread of sexual diseases that are going round, knowingly and unknowingly, its far better to be safe. I however will not be pulling out my J. L. S to have some S. E. X. that’s just too weird.

MOBO nominations

Just had a look at the nominations for this year’s MOBO awards which take place in Liverpool this October. A very fascinating pick…well what’s new with the MOBOs??!! I’m entitled to my opinion and I just want this award in reality justified and stating its eminence for something because I don’t see what this recognizes other that recognizing the talent in the urban industry.
I agree to the platform in rewarding talent that is often overshadowed at other awards shows but its organization and real value to somewhat of a prize to the artist being nominated or receiving the award seems to me questionable. Both UK & International acts both are at a shocking 15 nominations and Tinie Tempah is not nominated for best UK Hip Hop? So what is he then?! I know the alteration of music has stemmed from its originality but the form of which it’s familiar its not accepted? Should be an interesting year for this year’s award ceremony.

Just when I thought this week couldn’t get any better, it did!!!!…After the shenanigans from the Bank holiday weekend, gigging at Portsmouth the day after…I was drained of all energy and slowly getting back (with some sleep) and no complaints.

Wednesday started with good news to hear that “Champion” made the XFM Single of the week on the John Kennedy show. The band (Clement Marfo & The Frontline) and I are just over the moon and just to have the icing on the cake…we got a 1st play on Radio 1 on the Zane Lowe show….aaarrgghh!!!! More than excited…even better to hear great feedback from it.

The limited release single is out on the 11th of October on Kids Records, ending this week on a high, Clement Marfo & The Frontline will take to the o2 Arena for the Eddie Kadi Show.

It’s been a blessing so far to have so many things happen along the way that we (Clemet Marfo & The Frontline) have to pinch ourselves to see just how real it is. The love and appreciation from so many people we’ve met and keep meeting just gives that fuel for us to keep on going.

The great reception performing at Bournemouth, got us all on a (sweaty) high, and just when my system was taking it all in and getting ready to calm down….more news was to come….

Just over a month ago, on Monday 12th July 2010, a disastrous fire caused enormous damage to the Madingley Block at the Cambridge Road Estates in Kingston. As a result 60 families have been made temporarily homeless, and some will never be able to return to home and have lost all their worldly goods.

The heartbreaking incident was a little too close to home, being local to the area, a few of the band members were quick to help the victims of that terrible experience. A CREst Fire Fund has been set up to offer help to the affected families. The Kingston Council did a great job housing everyone in the immediate aftermath, but there's still a large amount of people affected who need a bit of financial help to get them back to where they were.

By any means to help, Kingston’s most famous venue, New Slang will be putting on a charitable gig to help in many ways that they can for the community. Clement Marfo & The Frontline will be taking part to help in every way we can on the night. For every person that comes to New Slang gig on August 19th a donation of £2 from every £4 ticket will be valued to the CREst fund, to help raise some money for the community! Your support will be greatly appreciated and welcomed.

Sunday mornings back in the day had the best cartoons, but most Sundays I don’t even get to see what’s on TV. I hear it’s not all great; I’m not missing anything then….

Every now and again I get my geek mode on and rummage online at some cartoons old and new. DC Comics seem to be churning out some great feature length animation. I spent that last 80Mins or so watching the new feature from DC Comics, Batman Under The Red Hood.

Batman faces his ultimate challenge as the mysterious Red Hood takes Gotham City by firestorm. One part vigilante, one part criminal kingpin, Red Hood begins cleaning up Gotham with the efficiency of Batman, but without following the same ethical code. Killing is an option. And when the Joker falls in the balance between the two, hard truths are revealed and old wounds are reopened. (via IDMB – they just said it better than I would have done without waffling)

Just the other day I was thinking to myself, I haven’t any material from K-oS in a while, wonder what he’s up to… as I began drifting away I went back to the catalogue and played all tracks back to back.

Briefly for those that are unfamiliar with K-oS, he is a Canadian Hip Hop Artist on the conscious tip. His first album came out in 2002 (Exit – you need that album in your collection) that was the deformation to my musical taste. I was very inspired by K-oS and still am, the fusion of genres and melodies to his work still get me excited every time.

To my enthusiasm I goggled him out of curiosity to see what he was up to and very thrilled to see that he has a new mixtape out called The Anchorman. For the love of music, nothing better than sharing. So here is the new mixtape.

The 10 minutes that Kanye West was on Ustream was very informative, to get to know so much more on the concept on the video, the reason and artistry behind it all clearly has a message. Kanye described liking when “art connects across the board” wanting to have music have the same feeling, “Connecting around the world, to have people feel exactly what I’m feeling”

He went on to speak on his favorite video, Flashing Lights. He describes liking abstract to his work. The simple image of the type of girls that he is attracted to, looking powerful and not submissive, the concept and look of the video that wasn’t more pleasing to people that work in the video but he mentioned the he loves bringing his opinion to different places that haven’t seen that before, again the connection across the board.

Just before the ustream ended, Kanye played some new music from the forthcoming album and emphasized more on wanting people to feel what he was feeling “feel the emotion and artistry”.
For that short moment to hear Kanye talk on open up was enjoyable to have a form of explanation to how he works. I like that his ideas are never imposed on you but left for you to think for yourself.

The new video teaser of Kanye West's POWER single hit the airwaves of MTV and causing much of an excitement. The "moving painting" as Kanye describes it, is directed by Marco Brambilla, the digital collage artist that took inspiration from his own work called Civilization.
If your wondering like me who Kanye is portraying, its the legendary Greek figure Damocles. "Damocles was a Greek legend. Damocles said to Dionysus, a tyrant, how fortunate he was to have so much power and fortune. Dionysus then offered to switch places with Damocles for a day so that he could experience the life for himself. That evening, a banquet was held and Damocles was treated like royalty. However, at the end of the meal, Damocles noticed a sword hanging over his head by a single strand of horse hair. Damocles immediately lost all interest in the life that he had experienced that day – the food, the beautiful women. Dionysus had successfully allowed Damocles to experience the constant danger that comes with the power and fortune he has.Thus, "Power." (Thanks to Nick for the explanation)

Marco Brambilla explains the piece to the video: "Well, it’s a video portrait of Kanye. It starts with a very tight shot introducing him that’s kind of a reinvention of a neoclassical painting. It pulls back from the shot, without any cuts, and we reveal the video canvas, populated by all these characters who are depicted in various stages of undress and decadence. The iconography comes from Roman iconography, Renaissance iconography, and it connects to the sexuality of the music as well. As we reveal the setting for it, there’s a feeling of a moment of transition for him. A fall from grace, if you will. It visualizes power, and him as the icon as power, and then at the end of the piece it challenges the power that I set up at the beginning. It’s an elliptical piece of storytelling."

About two weeks ago, at The Creators Project, I watched a film by Spike Jonze called “I’m Here” a robot love story celebrating a life enriched by creativity. The movie is set in contemporary L.A., where life moves at a seemingly regular pace with the exception of a certain amount of robot residents who love among the population. A male robot librarian lives a solitary and methodical life — devoid of creativity, joy and passion - until he meets an adventurous and free spirited female robot.

At work been listening to the Stray Bullets mixtape by Cee-Lo Green and this particular song, “I’ll Kill Her” features a French lady that I’ve been trying hard to find for ages….If only Cee-Lo would reply to my tweets, the punk!!!

Finally found…she’s called SOKO. The 25 year old actress & singer kicked off in 2007 with the song “I’ll Kill Her” reaching number one in Denmark and hitting the charts in Australia, Brussels and the Netherlands

She had toured with M.I.A on the KALA tour back in the UK (missed that) and I hope that she will be coming sometime soon and look forward to catching her…
